THE LAURISILVA FOREST

This route in the Cubo de La Galga will get you into the incredible Laurisilva forests up close, a prehistoric heritage on the oldest soils on the island of La Palma and where they still develop in their maximum splendor. We will know the main species of trees that make up the forest, the use that was made in the past of its woods and in the popular medicine of its leaves, bark and sap. We will also get closer to the most characteristic fauna, composed mainly of invertebrates. Once inside the Cubo de La Galga, it will seem to live in another time, with the feeling that, from one moment to the next, a dinosaur or a goblin may appear We will arrive at the Somada Alta viewpoint at an altitude of 850m where we can see the spectacular La Galga ravine. Looking towards the coast we will learn about the history of the town of San Andrés, with its sugar cane tradition that in the past made it the main nucleus of the island after Santa Cruz de La Palma and that today preserves the only rum distillery on the island . We will return to the starting point passing through a fayal-heather forest and retaking part of the initial path.

A GUIDED TOUR IN SMALL GROUPS

The excursion to the Laurisilva Forest takes place every Friday, at some times of the year also other days of the week (see the calendar) The groups are not formed by more than 15 participants, which allows a better interaction between the tourist, the guide and the environment. We like to create a familiar and friendly atmosphere and respect the rhythms of everyone and especially of the place where we are. It is a medium difficulty path that can face all types of walkers with a minimum of experience and without physical problems related above all to the knees, since the path is, in part, downhill.
